Earlier this month, Terry Bynum and his family were on a road trip from Colorado to Mississippi when their car’s lug nuts came loose and they lost a tire in Hardy, Arkansas. Stranded far from home with no place to go, he called 911 and Sergeant Dan Gallagher of the Hardy Police Department responded.

Bynum says he expected only basic assistance but was surprised when Sergeant Gallagher drove the entire family to a hotel and refused to let them pay for their room. During the interaction, the officer also gave Bynum’s son a police badge and let the family’s dog act as a temporary police K9. Gallagher says his actions reflect the caring nature of the Hardy community and his personal desire to give back.

The Bynum family plans to make a stop in Hardy part of all their future trips through the area as a way to honor the kindness shown to them. When they passed through the town on their way home on Saturday, Gallagher offered to buy them dinner. The kind officer says he hopes his actions will inspire others to help people in need.
